Run Programs on a Sandbox

Now here is an interesting piece of software that I have been using for a while now.

Sandboxie. Secure web browsing
The software is called ‘Sandboxie’ and basically “runs your programs in an isolated space which prevents them from making permanent changes to other programs and data in your computer.”

For me, the main advantage of using this software is the ability to surf the internet in a secure way. You see, with Sandboxie, the possibility of getting infected with viruses, spyware or malware is minimal. This is because every program (including all web browsers) that is run inside sandboxie, is executed isolated from your system.

So even in the remote case that you got a virus or spyware from a malicious webpage, all you would have to do is to simply ‘empty’ the sandbox and restart the browser. Your system would be completely unaffected.

You are able to tell which programs are running in “sandboxed mode” because of the label [#] program name [#] on the upper left corner of every window.

You can also run other programs in a sandbox (pretty much any program installed on your system). All you have to do is right click on the Default sandbox and select “Run Sandboxed – Run Any program”.

To control Sandboxie, a small cheese-like icon is installed on the lower rigth corner of your taskbar.

Mind you, sandboxie is free forever, but if no registration is applied, after 30 days a small and brief ‘nag’ screen appears letting you know that if you wish that such screen would not appear no more, then all you have to do is to register :) Besides that, the program works all the time with no problems.

I truly recommend this piece of software, specially if you tend to navigate a lot of new and exotic webpages online
